| The bodega at Faith Mission has always been a major part of the work here. The building has allowed us to store and distribute the food, clothes, goods, and other miscellaneous items that are given to the people of Mexico. The Bodega measures 120 ft. X 60 ft. and has two coolers, large enough to store 45,000 pounds of perishable food. As people, churches and organizations have found it in their heart to provide for the poor in Mexico, the bodega is utilized to accommodate this giving.
However, the bodega is more than just a large storage area for goods. It is also a place where the Mexican and American workers join hand in hand to prepare the food, clothing, and goods for the Mexican people. During this time, friendships are formed, relationships are strengthened, and most of all, growth in the knowledge and grace of Christ Jesus occurs. For anyone of you that have visited a home, city or country impoverished, you will quickly agree and acknowledge the need for even the most basic things of life to be made available to the poor. For many of us, we have taken for granted the fact that there will be food on our table today, tomorrow, and for a time to come. However, for many of the Mexican people, there is literally a daily faith and hope required for their next meal.
At Faith Mission, we recognize that when people give, they want to be sure that they are giving to a ministry or organization that will ensure that what is being given, goes directly to the people in need. We want to assure you that we are an accountable and faithful ministry in all aspects of those who give to the Mexican people, and those in need. We also recognize that there is more to giving than just finances. There is time, gifts, talents, relationships, and experience that God has given us. Not everyone is called to the mission field, but you can play an important part, just as if you were here as a missionary.
What should you do if yourself, or have a contact that is able, willing and wanting to give in the items listed, or maybe even things not listed? Please contact us at the address, phone number, and/or e-mail address in our “Contact” section. We would be more than happy to see how arrangements could be made to see these items delivered to the needy in Mexico.
What Can You Do To Play A Part?
As has been mentioned before on some of the other pages you have visited, it can be frustrating when someone is touched and moved by what they see, hear, or have experienced; and want to "do" something. Yet, they feel ill equipped, unable, or just don't have the resources. We have all come to expect that when ministries make their needs known, that the first thing that is going to be asked for is money. While we admit that finances are needed and necessary to run a ministry, we have come to value the other ways of giving that are just as important after more than 40 years of ministry to the Mexican people. So, the big question you may be asking is "What can I do?"
We recognize that each individual, while they may be hundreds, or even thousands of miles from Faith Mission International, have personal contacts with individuals or companies that can help and make a difference. There are companies and businesses who are willing and able to provide all kinds of various products that would be a tremendous blessing and of great benefit to the Mexican people. You might be that person to make that contact with someone you know, or you may desire to initiate a contact with a local business in your town or area. What type of items could be used? Below, is a list of items, but by no means complete. It will be extremely important that should you make any arrangements for items to be given/donated in large quantity, that you contact us.
Items for possible giving:
1) Any type of non-perishable food items - dry goods - canned foods - flour, sugar, corn meal, cereal, etc..
2) Any type of baby/children's items: Diapers, baby food, formula, baby bottles.
3) Bottled water, bottled fruit drinks, etc..
4) For any perishable items, we do have cooler space to accommodate items, but you will need to contact us to let us know what the item(s) are, and the amount, so we can check on our available cooler space.
5) Tennis shoes (boxed in matching pairs).
We want to thank you for anything that you are able to do to play a part in the mission and ministry of Faith Mission!
Note: For large shipments of any kind (require a semi-trailer), we are willing as we are able to cover the cost to have the items shipped. However, if the company or business is willing to cover this, it would be of great benefit. Thank You.
Care Packages For Children
We have people always asking "What can I do to help the Mexican children?" One opportunity that allows anyone of any age to participate is through the ministry of care boxes. These care boxes are not only a tremendous blessing, but valued by the children for their contents. We normally suggest a box the size of a typical shoe box. We would encourage that this would be a great project for any school, business, youth or children's ministries, and/or a family project. As well, we ask that you attempt to prepare boxes of equal number for boys and girls, or as much as you possibly can. The age range can be anywhere from approximately 6 years old to 12 years old.
Typical contents would include:
1) Any type of grooming and/or body care products. As examples; shampoo's, lotions, brushes, combs, soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, makeup, hand towels, hair conditioner, etc...
2) Include any footwear like socks or foot warmers, nylons, stockings, etc...
3) Small amount of hard candy, gum (nothing that would melt), etc...
4) A small inexpensive "gift of your choice, like a watch, earrings, calculator, crayons, games, etc....
5) Possibly a Spanish New Testament if you are able to obtain them (Possibly contact the Gideon's).
6) Any other item you believe would be of benefit and a blessing to the children.
It is very important when sending these boxes that they are clearly marked if they are for a boy or girl, and the approximate age that the contents would be for. For the mailing of the box or boxes (if sending multiple boxes, attempt to ship them together as much as possible), we would suggest that you have them shipped at the address on our "Contact Us" page. Also, it is important to not include any personal information about yourselves (ie: address or phone numbers). Thank You.
Our Mailing Information: For all shipments other than envelopes, send to: Faith Mission Int. 2903 Frontera Rd. Del Rio TX 78840
